A breast lift is a surgical procedure that is done by a cosmetic surgeon for the purpose of changing the shape of the breasts. In the breast lift procedure, the surgeon extracts the excess skin and reshapes the breast tissue to elevate your breasts. The procedure of breast lift is also called mastopexy. What is the procedure for a breast lift at the Dezire clinic?
- The first step towards the procedure is a consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Prashant Yadav. During this appointment, you will discuss your goals, medical history, and any concerns you may have. He will evaluate your breast size, shape, skin elasticity, and nipple position to determine the most appropriate technique for your case.
- On the day of the procedure, you will be given either general anesthesia (you're asleep) or local anesthesia with sedation (you're awake, but numbed and relaxed).
- Dr. Prashant will make incisions on your breasts, typically in one of the following three common techniques:
- Around the areola: This technique is suitable for cases where minimal lifting is needed. The incision is made around the edge of the areola.
- Around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the breast crease: This technique is employed in cases where significant lifting is required. The incision is made around the areola, extends vertically down, and continues along the breast crease.
- Reshaping the breast: After making the incisions, the surgeon will lift and reshape the breast tissue, reposition the nipple and areola to a more youthful look, and remove any excess skin. In some cases, the surgeon may also reduce the size of the areola if necessary.
- Closing the incisions: The incisions are then closed with sutures, and the surgeon may place temporary drainage tubes to prevent fluid buildup. The breasts are typically wrapped in a surgical bra or dressing for support.
- It's important to note that the specifics of the procedure may vary based on the surgeon's preferences and the unique characteristics of each patient. It's best to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon for a comprehensive evaluation and personalized recommendations for your breast lift.
when can you opt for a breast lift after your delivery?
The recovery time for a breast lift can vary from person to person, but generally, it takes around 1 to 2 weeks for the initial recovery period. During this time, you may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Pain medication and specific post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon will help manage any discomfort. You will need to wear a supportive bra and avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks. It’s essential to follow our surgeon’s guidelines carefully for optimal healing. Complete recovery, including the fading of scars and the final results, may take several months. Regular follow-up appointments with our surgeon will monitor your progress.
