Cosmetic Dermal Fillers
As we age, collagen and fat from the skin starts losing. These are the materials that prevent the skin from becoming saggy. Thus, with age, our skin can become thinner and more wrinkled and lined. The dermal fillers can fill in to those areas that need to be plumped making the skin look firmer and restoring the formal youthful appearance and looks.
Dermal fillers come in various thicknesses and thicker product needs to be injected into the dermis resulting in plumping out fine to deep lines and wrinkles. Here at Dezire clinic, we use dermal fillers that come pre-filled into syringes. We use FDA approved materials from Allergan, Juvederm, Voluma.
Types of Dermal Fillers
Absorbable (temporary) materials
- Collagen: The effect of collagen fillers generally last for 3-4 months.
- Hyaluronic acid: The effects of hyaluronic acid material last approximately 6 – 12 months.
Non-absorbable (permanent) materials
- he results can be long lasting.
Dermal fillers procedure
Step 1
Facial assessment & mapping
To begin with, Dr Prashant Yadav will evaluate your face, skin tone and mark the points as appropriate points for injections. Photographs may be taken of the areas to be treated.
Step 2
Cleansing & anesthetizing
Antibacterial agent will be applied to the skin for disinfecting. Some numbing ointment can be used to reduce the pain. However the pain is very mild and is easily tolerated.
Step 3
The injection
The pre-filled injections of dermal fillers are then used. The injection site is massaged and results are evaluated. Additional fillers are used if required.Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the whole process may be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.
Step 4
Clean up & recovery
Once satisfactory results are produced, any markings will be cleansed off. You may be offered an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort.
What dermal fillers can do
- Lip Augmentation- Dermal fillers can be successfully used to plump up thin lips
- Reducing fine lines- Dermal fillers can be used to fill out lines around lips, nasolabial lines (lines from nose to corners of mouth), smile lines on the cheek (dermal fillers cheeks) crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles to fill out.
- Enhance facial contours- shallow contours like sunken cheeks and weak chins using thicker fillers
- Scar reduction- Filling out deeper scars
- Anti ageing- Help reduce the appearance of veins and bones in aged hands with thin skin.
- Wrinkle treatment- Soften facial creases and wrinkles
- Recessed scar reduction- Improve the appearance of recessed scars
Different combinations of types of fillers are used depending on the area treated, and the depth of wrinkles or scars or sagginess of the skin. The purpose is to achieve the best results.
Dental or lip block may be used, where a small amount of lignocaine is injected into the lip area to help to numb them prior to treatment. The desired dermal filler is then injected into the lip area.
There is no downtime with dermal fillers. You can resume most activities right away.
Initially you may have
- An “over-filled” appearance to treated areas
- Mild swelling or bruising
- Temporary numbness or redness
Recovery
Recovery time varies from person to person. It depends upon the area treated, and which filler is used. The treatment times can vary from around 30 minutes to an hour, and recovery time can be from a few hours to a few days. Most people can go straight back to work after treatment with dermal fillers.
There is no downtime with dermal fillers. You can resume most activities right away. Initial swelling, numbness or bruising can be alleviated with topical icing and will improve within a matter of hours or just a few days. When your own fat is used as dermal filler, the healing process is longer and may take a few weeks.
The results last somewhere from 6 months to 2 years depending upon the type of fillers used. The effects can last up to five years, if semi- permanent or permanent fillers are used.
Dermal fillers side effects
Side effects are very minimal and they are depending on the area injected and the type of filler or pain control used. Patients may find the procedure almost painless to mildly uncomfortable. Injections given around the nose or lip areas are usually more painful.
The immediate side effect that can happen is of slight bleeding after the needle has been inserted into the skin. Mild bruising, redness and swelling can occur around the site of injection. In the matter of 2-3 days these signs will disappear completely, especially around the lips where there is little flesh and the skin is tender.
What Care Need To Be Taken After Dermal Filler Treatment?
Post-treatment advice may include
- Using ice packs to help to reduce swelling
- Analgesics if any pain after the procedure
- Bruising and swelling should go down after a couple of days
Fillers can be given alone or in combination with laser, chemical peel, radio frequency and cosmetic surgery
