What is Axillary fat pad?
Axillary fat pad are just the extension of breast tissue into axilla which gives appearance of bags under the axilla. Axillary fat causes lot of cosmetic concern and discomfort for the patient such as they cannot wear the clothes of their choice, moreover they may feel discomfort due to the posture of arm, sweating and stickiness because of their choice.
Define the Surgical anatomy of the axilla
Axilla has got pyramidal structure with concave floor which are being made up of skin and subcutaneous fat which are placed inferiorly and laterally. Axilla has got four borders which are
- A-anterior axillary fold consists of free border of pectoralis major
- B-posterior axillary fold consists of free border of latissimus dorsi
- C and D-anterior and posterior line define the medial arm
How axillary fat pad removal is done?
Axillary fat pad removal procedure is done under local anesthesia and it takes 45 mins to 1 hour to complete. The area is marked from where the axillary fat are to be removed. After that a puncture low the fold of the axillary breast tissue and tumescent fluid is injected for breaking the fat. VASER 4D liposuction is used for removing fat and giving a proper sculpted shape the area. Afterwards dressing is applied. You will be given compression garment to wear.
How much time is needed for recovery after axillary fat pad?
Recovery after axillary fat pad is immediate it doesn’t take much time. Initially you may feel some swelling and discomfort for 1 to 2 days which will heal on its own. You will be provided medications for it.
What are the precautions you have to take after axillary fat pad removal?
You have to avoid doing any sternous activity and doing heavy work for one to two days of the surgery. After that you can do your normal activities and you have to regularly do exercise and massage on the area. You have to wear compression garment for 3 to 4 weeks.
